Nicholas N. Strife, 8O, died Friday morning at the home of his son, Geo. N. Strife, River street, after a short illness. Death was due to a shock. Mr. Strife was born in Kirschnerville Oct. 17, 1850, a son of Michael and Catherine Dicob Strife. In 1883 he married Miss Louise Strader, who
died in 1916. He came to Lowville about 40 years ago, where he was employed at the Strife Hotel, then conducted by his brother, Jacob Strife. Later he entered the employ of the Haberer Furniture Company as nightwatchman, where he remained until about five years ago. He is survived by one son, George N. Strife, Lowville; three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Mattis, New Bremen; Mrs. Babara Becker, Croghan; Mrs. Mary Campany, Indian River; two brothers, Michael Strife of New Bremen, and Peter Strife, of Kirschnerville. Burial made in Rural cemetery.
