Russian Army General, Weapons Inventor. He invited and developed the AK-47 assault rifle, the most widespread and popular small arms weapon in history, with over 100 million made since it was perfected in 1947. A soldier in a Soviet Union tank regiment during World War II, his ideas for a new assault rifle came about while convalescing after being wounded in battle in 1942. The ideas came to fruition 5 years later with the "Avtomat Kalashnikova model 1947". He rose to the rank of General in the post-World War II Soviet Red Army.
