"Mrs. Lovina Ely.
Lovina Layman was born Aug. 9, 1853, in Cambria county, Pennsylvania, and departed this life Aug. 9, 1920, at Blissfield, aged 67 years.
She was united in marriage with William Ely Sept. 26, 1872, at Morenci, Michigan. To this union were born three children, one son and two daughters.
She with her husband settled in Fulton county, Ohio, where, with the exception of three years spent in Seneca, they remained until 1902, when they moved to Blissfield.
Her companion passed away April 21, 1913.
She was converted in early life and united with the Evangelical church, later joining the United Brethren church, of which she remained a faithful member to the end.
She leaves one son, Edmund Ely, of Delta, Ohio, two daughters, Mrs. Maud McQuillin of Wauseon, Ohio, and Mrs. Alice Caswell of Palmyra, Michigan, three sisters, two brothers, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, besides many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Ely was a consistent Christian, a kind neighbor and a loving mother. She will be greatly missed in the community.
'A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our midst
Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has recalled The boon his love had given,
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in Heaven.'
The funeral was conducted by the Rev. J. G. Conner at the Blissfield United Brethren church. Burial was made in the Blissfield cemetery."
