Mrs. Alice Frances Joyce Armfield age 90 of 518 Old US Hwy. 52 S, Mt. Airy, NC wife of Mr. Jack Armfield passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born September 24, 1923 in Surry County to the late Samuel Green and Elma Cook Joyce. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities with the music program and other positions in the church. Mrs. Armfield graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College in 1941 and started her teaching career with the Surry County School System, continuing to teach for 36 years and retiring from Mt. Airy City Schools. Surviving are her devoted husband of 68 years, Jack Edwin Armfield of the home: three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Hunter Joyce and Steve of Kernersville, H. Jo Armfield Barlow and Richard "Do" of Winston-Salem, Jackie Armfield Diamont and Ronnie of Pilot Mountain; six grandchildren and spouses, Sherri Greene and Paul, Scott Hunter and Julie, Chad Barlow and Gina and Todd Barlow all of Winston-Salem, Chris Diamont and Shannon of King, and Abby Diamont of Pilot Mountain; six great grandchildren, and a sister, Rachel Church of Lenoir. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Armfield was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Edwards and Mary Lou Cooper. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by Rev. Harry Sammons. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm Saturday until time of the service at Moody Funeral Home. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Skilled Care Staff of Northern Hospital of Surry County Hospital for the care Mrs. Armfield received during her stay. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, c/o Tina Mooney, 107 Mark Street, Mt.
