COOKE, JUNE June Cooke nee June Louise Rhoads, died December 25, 2002 in Denver.
Born in Montgomery County, Iowa on June 24, 1914, she was the youngest of six children.
After graduating from Red Oak (IA) High School in 1930, she completed normal training courses and taught in rural schools near Red Oak.
In 1935 she married Sam R. Cooke, Jr., of Red Oak. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2002.
After WWII the family relocated to Ames, Iowa, where she was active in the First Congregational Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. An excellent homemaker, she also worked outside the home in public and university libraries, retail sales, and as a dental assistant, both in Iowa and the Denver area.
In 2001 the couple moved back to Denver where she lived at the Christian Living Campus Nursing Center/University Hills. She is survived by her daughter Jeanne Cooke Collins, Denver; granddaughter M. Katharine "Katie" Collins, Hyannis, Massachussets; and her eldest sister Lillian Rhoads Stubergh, Glendora, California; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, February 1 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 2013 Glenarm Place, Denver. Ashes will be interred in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.
