Kennneth Charles Capehart, known to all as Ken, of St. Clair, MO, departed this life in Fenton, MO, on December 17, 2013, having reached the age of eighty-nine years, four months and two days. Ken was born in St. Clair, MO on August 15, 1924, son of Austin Benjamin Capehart and Myrtle Ann Capehart nee Mothershead. On May 15, 1943, he was united in marriage to Eva Ellen Bailey and one son came to bless this union.
Ken is survived by his wife, Eva Capehart of St. Clair, MO; by his son, Wayne Capehart and companion, Leasa Strader, of St. Clair; by his grandson, James "J.R." Capehart and girlfriend, Brittany Moore, of St. Clair; by his great-grandson, Kenneth Taj Capehart, of St. Clair; by one brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Myrtle Capehart; by his daughter-in-law, Beverly Capehart; and by two sisters, Mary "Kate" Dell and Lulu Duemler.
Ken was a Christian and long time member of First Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO. During his working career he was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local #1839 of St. Louis, MO, where he worked on various projects as a carpenter through the union hall. He was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during World War II, entering on June 2, 1943 and receiving his honorable discharge on January 3, 1946. Ken earned five bronze stars and a good conduct medal for his participation in several campaigns in Europe, including Normandy and Central Europe. He had a passion for music, playing guitar and singing in his band, "Ken Capehart and the Carol County Ramblers". Ken continued to play until about two years ago. He had even backed up Loretta Lynn when she first started out. Ken also loved to fish, but what meant most to him was time spent with his family. The love they shared and many precious memories they created will forever live in their hearts.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 20, 2013, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair, MO, with the Rev. Cliff Day officiating. Interment, with full military honors, was in Prospect Cemetery in Lonedell, MO. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in St. Clair, MO.
