Jan 5, 1968 - Carroll Daily Times - Henry (Whitey) Nieman, 83, died at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at St. Anthony Hospital after a two weeks illness. Requiem mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Monday at SS Peter and Paul Church by the pastor, the Very Rev. Leo Lenz, V.F., with interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday at the Sharp Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 and 8:45 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Survivors include a brother, Joseph Nieman; a niece, Mrs. Josephine Gilbertson of DeSmet, S.D., and a nephew, Edward Nieman of Casapolois, Mich.
Mr. Nieman was born Dec. 27, 1884, at Mt. Carmel, son of George and Josephine Nieman. As an infant he moved with his family to Texas, and then to Hemingsford, Nebr., where his father died in 1889. The family then moved to Concepcion, Mo., later coming to Carroll, where they made their home with an uncle, the late Clem Pille of Arcadia.
As a young man, he ranched in western states and in 1911 moved back to Carroll, where he has continued to live. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish.
