Murel passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2013, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Haas was born on the family farm on October 30, 1936, in Venturia, North Dakota, the second son to the late Asoph and Ernestine (Bertsch) Haas. He accepted Jesus Christ as Lord during his childhood years and earnestly served Him in a number of churches throughout his lifetime. He attended grade school in Venturia and graduated from Ashley High School. During his early years he was heavily involved in helping on the family farm.
Following high school graduation, Murel served honorably in the United States Navy as a Petty Officer Second Class from 1955-1959. Upon his discharge, he married his long-distance love, Myrna (Langmaack) Haas. Following their marriage in the fall of 1959, Murel and Myrna returned to the family farm.
Their three girls, Melinda, Marsha, and Monica were born in North Dakota before Murel and Myrna moved to Missoula, Montana. There Murel pursued further education and worked as an electrician for Van Evans Plywood Mill and the University of Montana. Murel was an avid outdoorsman, whether it was in his own backyard garden or hunting and fishing in the mountains. Upon Murel's retirement, Murel and Myrna moved back to North Dakota to be nearer to remaining family. In 2012, Murel and Myrna moved to Pine Bluffs where their eldest daughter, Melinda (Haas) Gibson resides. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend; and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
