Nancy was the first child of Joshua and Elizabeth Burgess Black. The family moved from Maryland to Indiana after 1819 where Nancy met and married Ira Eldredge 4 July 1833 and bore 11 children. Nancy and family left Indiana in 1846 to the Rocky Mountains. Nancy left very reluctantly to the point that her husband and father in law had to lift her while sitting in her rocking chair and place her in the wagon. (Nancy was pregnant at the time they left). They arrived in the Salt Lake Valley 19 Sept 1847 and settled in Sugar House.
