Former Assistant Road Commissioner and Blount County Deputy, John Edward Cannon of Maryville, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013, due to complications from a recent car accident.

He was born on January 12, 1930, to the late Roy Clint and Beulah McInturff Cannon of Greenback. He retired from the U. S. Navy as Chief Petty Officer after 22 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Boone Cannon; his children: son, John Edward Cannon, Jr. (Ed) and wife Kelly Spruiell Cannon of Maryville; daughter, Melanie Cannon Marley of Maryville and son-in-law, Jack Marley, Jr. of Farragut; daughter, Sonya Cannon Sharpe and son-in-law, J. Russell Sharpe of Alcoa. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jason Cannon, Alyson Cannon, Abigail Cannon and Jacob Cannon all of Maryville; John Marley of Farragut and Isaac Sharpe, Charlie Sharpe and Joe Sharpe all of Alcoa; his sister, Martha Kate McCammon. Mr. Cannon is survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law all of Blount County with over 70 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rob Whitehead and Rev. Sam Boone officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Liberty Baptist Cemetery for the interment service. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. Thursday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.
