Mariah Louisa BURGE, a respected woman of this place, died at the home of her mother, Mrs. GOODWIN, on West Main street last Saturday night after a lingering illness of consumption.
She was born December 5, 1846; died February 23, 1907; aged sixty years, two months and eighteen days. In the vicinity of Park she was born and reared and spent the greater part of her life.
Several months ago she came to Bloomfield to make her home, but last September she went to the home of her son, Fred BURGE, in Indiana Territory and later went with him and his family to Texas. But her health continued to fail and on Sunday before her death she returned to Bloomfield. Enfeebled by her long journey she continued to sink until she found rest and peace in death.
On November 19, 1876 she was united in marriage to Dr. N. C. BURGE, but her companion preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Fred BURGE; a stepson George BURGE of this place; and by her mother, Mrs. GOODWIN.
Early in life she united with the M. E. church at Mt. Zion; later she changed to the Richland Baptist Church at Park, and two years ago she transferred her membership to the M. E. Church of Bloomfield. She was a woman possessed of many excellent qualities and lived a consistent Christian life.
The funeral services were held Monday forenoon from the Walnut Grove Church, conducted by the Rev. W. H. WYLIE, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at that place.
