He was the first Latin-American All Star in major league history (1951). He became the third Venezuelan to play in the majors. In 1951 he broke an American League record by taking 297 chances (in 53 games played) without an error. In a 10-season career he was a .258 hitter with 55 home runs and 474 RBI in 1325 games.
