Alternate delegate to Democratic National Convention from Georgia, 1948; member of Georgia state house of representatives. Died in 1983.
J. Sim Alexander, 72, resident of Lyons for many years died of an apparent heart attack Thursday afternoon. He was a native of Toombs County and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was former owner operator of the Dixie Motel and Cabaret Restaurant, an active member of the Lyons City Council, and was a former member of the State Legislature. He was a past member of Board of Directors of the Vidalia Country Club. The J.S. Alexander Memorial Bridge on U.S. No. 1 was namved in memory of his father.
He is survived by three sons, Joseph S. Alexander, III, of Richmond, Kentucky, Robert Nelson Alexander of Vicksburg, Miss., and Tommy Mauldin Alexander of Lyons; a daughter, Mrs. Zandra E. Berkobein of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Rufus and Velton Alexander of Lyons; five sisters, Mrs. Chelma Kirkland and Mrs. Eunice Hardwick of Lyons, Mrs. Bessie Jones of Glennville and Mrs. Theo Jones of Uvalda, and Mrs. Mary McKnight of Hurst, Texas; six grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First United Methodist Church with pastor, dr. Max Hill officiating. Interment was in Lyons City Cemetery. Trapnell-Jones Funeral Home of Lyons was in charge of funeral arrangements.
