First Lieutenant Penniman was the pilot of
U.S. Army Air Corps B-17F Flying Fortress
#42-5369, serving with the 346th Combat
Crew Training Squadron at Dyersburg A.A.F.,
Tennessee.

He was one of seven airmen who perished in
the mid-air collision of his bomber with
another B-17, one mile east of Gates, Tenn.

He resided at 1003 Poplar Hill Road,
Baltimore, Maryland, prior to entering the
service. A son of George Penniman II.

Age 23, single.

The aircrew killed were:

2nd Lt. Joseph F Kerber, Jr
2nd Lt. William L O'Donnell
Sgt. Joseph P Azevedo, Jr
Sgt. William F Gilliland
Sgt. Martin B Johnston
Sgt. Richard J Scott
