U.S. Congressman. After studying medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, he was licensed a physician and practiced medicine in Glasgow, Missouri. He studied theology, was ordained a Methodist Minister and preached in Howard County. In 1833, he was elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-third Congress, serving until 1835. After his term, he resumed his ministerial duties and also practiced medicine until his death at age 60.
