"Rites Held in Berkeley for Oldest Mother
"Funeral Services Conducted In Memory of 94-Year-Old Pioneer
"Berkeley, Feb 3. -- Funeral services were held today for Mrs. Galesta F. Johnson, 94, last year adjudged the oldest mother in Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

"Mrs. Johnston, a native of Canada, came to the bay region in 1875, residing with her late husband Henry, on a ranch near Giant, Contra Costa, She raised 1 [sic] children, five of whom are now living. In addition there are 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

"Honors went to Mrs. Johnston last year in a competition conducted by an Oakland business firm to determine the oldest mother now living in the two Eastbay counties Surviving children are Milford R. Johnston, Berkeley; Truman A. Johnston, Oakland; Mrs. W. A. Little, San Francisco, Mrs. W. B. Card, Berkeley, and Miss Ethel Johnston, San Francisco.

"Mrs. Johnston died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Card, 3012 Ellis street. She had been blind for the past five years. Funeral services were held at the Little Chapel of the Flowers this afternoon with cremation following at Mountain View cemetery."
