Alfred was born in Kingston, but he spent much of his childhood in Edwardsville. He graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1951, and received a B.S. in Business Administration from Wilkes College in 1974. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. While in the Navy, he was an operating room technician attached to the U.S. Marine Corps. He was stationed in Japan, Hawaii, and several bases on the west coast. He married Eileen Moran on Dec 27, 1969, a day after a record breaking blizzard. They had to walk to the church and bring the cake home on a sled. He was employed by Lewis & Duncan Sporting Goods for 37 years until the store closed in 1998. After his wife died, he took over her position as co-owner of the Book Swap stores in Edwardsville and Scranton until they closed in April of 2013. Al was an avid fan of Penguins hockey, and was a season ticket holder with the Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins. He traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. He enjoyed spending time with his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Penny. He was the brother of John Puzauskas and Theresa Mitchell. He had two daughters, Clare and Diane.
