A native of Bani, Dominican Republic, the 6'2", and 205lbs, Encarnacion made his major league debut on August 26, 2001, and played his final game on April 14, 2002. Originally signed by the Oakland Athletics as a amateur free agent in 1994, he played for the Colorado Rockies in 2001, and the Chicago Cubs in 2002. In his first season as a professional baseball player he had 14 hits in 62 at-bats, three RBI and two stolen bases. In April of 2005, he began playing for the Macoto Cobras of the Chinese Professional Baseball League. On October 3, 2005, he was found dead in the teams dormitory in Danshuei, Taiwan, from unknown causes, at the age of 30. (bio by: K)
