Officer Winslow passed away as a result of EVIL cancer. She graduated from Yale High School, Michigan State University, Mid Michigan Police Academy, and was employed with LPD (Lansing Police). She later was a director for the Mid Michigan Police Academy at LCC.
She leaves behind her husband, two children, her parents, and numerous coworkers and friends.
Katherine "Kathy" Elizabeth Winslow, of Durand, passed away December 5, 2013 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. The daughter of William and Nancy (Hanneke) Maplethorpe, "Kathy" was born February 26, 1973, in Port Huron, Michigan,.
She graduated from Yale High School in 1991 and from Michigan State University in 1995 with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. She went on to graduate from the Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College.
She then went on to be a police officer with the City of Lansing for 10 years, where she proudly served as a road patrol officer as well as a Field Training Officer, Crisis Team member, Human Resource Officer and a Negotiator with the START Team.
She then became Director of the Mid-Michigan Police Academy at Lansing Community College for the next five years before she was diagnosed with cancer. She took special joy and pride in the training of future law enforcement officers. It was her passion.
Kathy was united in marriage with Scott Winslow on June 13, 1998 in Port Huron, Michigan. They have two children, Kyle (12) and Jessica (9). She enjoyed nothing more in life than being a mother. She never missed a sporting event or activity. She has positively affected the lives of many people and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by:
……Russell and Dorothy Maplethorpe and
……Maynard and Verna Hanneke.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on December 10, 2013, at the Swartz Funeral Home, with Pastor Louis Canaday officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Scott Winslow, which will be used for the Relay For Life Team. "Cancer Sucks!"
We would like to thank Dr. Rizwan Danish and the chemotherapy nurses at Genesys/Hurley Cancer Institute and the wonderful nurses of the 2nd floor at Genesys Hospital for their care and compassion.
