OBITUARY:
July 1, 1954 (City Republic and the Blue Mound Sun) George Wait Died Friday Afternoon, Former County Treasurer of Linn County, Services were held in Wesley Chapel Monday and Burial in Chapel Cemetery. George W. Wait, 90, died in the Worthington Nursing Home here Friday afternoon. He had been in poor health the past two years.
Born in Illinois, Mr. Wait came to Linn county when a child. He was elected county treasurer in 1926 and served two terms. Services were held in Wesley Chapel Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Jack Callaway. Music was by Kenney, Orval Henesey and Al Irwin, accompanied by Mrs. Grace Johnson. Pallbearers were Harry and Lee Quaintance, Hap Hardesty, Tom Howell, Harold Mahon, Wilbur Frear, Claude Rice and Paul Husted, C. C. and Noah Burkhead were honorary pallbearers. Burial was in Wesley Chapel cemetery.
George W. Wait, son of J. D. and Delilah Moran Wait, was born August 27, 1864 in Gorin, Ill, and died June 25, 1954. George Wait came to Kansas in early childhood with his parents and settled in the Parker community. Later he moved to the Centerville community where he lived until 1921 when he moved to Mound City, He was elected to the office of county treasurer in 1926, took office in October 1927 and served for four years.
He married Nancy Jane Burkhead on January 25, 1885 and to this union was born three children, Elsie, Charles Vernon and Wilma. His wife procedes him in death July 6, 1940 and his daughter Wilma Post died in 1942. Mr. Wait is survived by his daughter Mrs. Elsie Lewis of Topeka and son, Charles Vernon Wait of Centerville, also five grandchildren and on brother, Emory Wait of Greeley and several nieces and nephews.

OBITUARY:
July 1, 1954 (City Republic and the Blue Mound Sun) George Wait Died Friday Afternoon, Former County Treasurer of Linn County, Services were held in Wesley Chapel Monday and Burial in Chapel Cemetery. George W. Wait, 90, died in the Worthington Nursing Home here Friday afternoon. He had been in poor health the past two years.
Born in Illinois, Mr. Wait came to Linn county when a child. He was elected county treasurer in 1926 and served two terms. Services were held in Wesley Chapel Sunday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Jack Callaway. Music was by Kenney, Orval Henesey and Al Irwin, accompanied by Mrs. Grace Johnson. Pallbearers were Harry and Lee Quaintance, Hap Hardesty, Tom Howell, Harold Mahon, Wilbur Frear, Claude Rice and Paul Husted, C. C. and Noah Burkhead were honorary pallbearers. Burial was in Wesley Chapel cemetery.
George W. Wait, son of J. D. and Delilah Moran Wait, was born August 27, 1864 in Gorin, Ill, and died June 25, 1954. George Wait came to Kansas in early childhood with his parents and settled in the Parker community. Later he moved to the Centerville community where he lived until 1921 when he moved to Mound City, He was elected to the office of county treasurer in 1926, took office in October 1927 and served for four years.
He married Nancy Jane Burkhead on January 25, 1885 and to this union was born three children, Elsie, Charles Vernon and Wilma. His wife procedes him in death July 6, 1940 and his daughter Wilma Post died in 1942. Mr. Wait is survived by his daughter Mrs. Elsie Lewis of Topeka and son, Charles Vernon Wait of Centerville, also five grandchildren and on brother, Emory Wait of Greeley and several nieces and nephews.
