Walter C. Rhodes, 70, of 85 Highland Road, Bethel Park, a native and former resident of Waynesburg, died at 7:20 a.m. Sunday, September 27, 1964, in Magee Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a three-month illness.

He was a son of Josiah and Anna Eaton Rhodes, who lived in Waynesburg.

Mr. Rhodes was a retired employe of the Equitable Gas Co., and a veteran of World War I, having served with Co. K, 110th Pennsylvania Infantry - the Greene County National Guard Unit of the 28th Division.

He was a graduate of Waynesburg College and a life member of the Waynesburg Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.

Although he had resided in Bethel Park and other Pittsburgh suburban communities since he was advanced several years ago from the Waynesburg offices of Equitable Gas, to the main offices in Pittsburgh, Mr. Rhodes continued to have a close attachment for his home community.

He was particularly fond of attending the annual reunions of the World War I members of Company K and was one of the few who attended every reunion since they were started in the mid 1920's except for the one this month when he was hospitalized.

Mr. Rhodes was a member of the Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church and of the following masonic organizations: Waynesburg Lodge 153, F. and A. M., Washington Council 1; Knights Templar Commandery 3; Washington Royal Arch Chapter 150; the Coudersport Consistory and a life member of Syria Temple of the Shrine in Pittsburgh.

He was also a charter member of James Farrell Post 330, American Legion, at Waynesburg.

Mr. Rhodes is survived by his wife, Madalon Hatfield Rhodes, one son, George, of Bethel Park; one sister, Josephine Rhodes, of Waynesburg, and several nieces and nephews.

One sister and two brothers are deceased.
