Son of James Davidson and Margaret Maitland. Alexander came to Canada in 1878 to live at Midmay, Ontario. He married Elizabeth Scott Oct 19, 1887 in Walkerton, Bruce County, Ontario. They came west to farm at Cochrane, Alberta in 1889, before homesteading in the Little Red Deer District in 1890. They built their own log home, milked cows, sold milk and cream, made butter and bread, raised chickens and turkeys, made soap and sewed their own clothes. It was a new and undevloped district with no railroad service, irregular and scanty mail service and they were dependent upon themsleves for a means of existence. The main entertainment in the early days was lawn bowling, hardball, football, curling on the lakes, skating and horse back riding. House parties, card games and school house dances made a sociable community. Alexander and Elizabeth had nine children.
