CLAUDE - Anna Lee Appling, 96, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Claude United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Crumpton of the church officiating. Private burial will be in Claude Cemetery by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street, in Amarillo.
Mrs. Appling was born in Wolfe City. The family moved in 1912 to Abernathy where she attended school. She later attended West Texas Normal School and became a second grade teacher at Claude in the early 1920s. She was an employee of the Claude postal service for 25 years before retiring in 1970.
She married Carl C. Appling in 1923.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, David Appling; and a daughter, Dorothy J. Cox.
Survivors include a son, Donald C. Appling of Amarillo; two grandsons; and a great-grandson.
The body will not be available for viewing.
