ASHBY, Betty (87) of Kettering, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2013 at her daughter's home. She had a prolonged and debilitating illness following multiple strokes.
Her husband of over 40 years, Dr. Hobert Ashby, preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and John Roberts (Hamilton); her son, Dr. Stephen Ashby and his wife Patti (Oklahoma City); her grandsons Jonathan Roberts (Hamilton) and Serogia Ashby (Oklahoma City); her great-grandchildren, Hailee Yancey, Kaitlyn Roberts, and Collin Roberts (Hamilton) as well as her brother, Samuel Watkins and sister-in-law Jean (Carlisle).
Mrs. Ashby always loved children and was an elementary teacher for more than 30 years. She began her career teaching grades 1-8 in a "one room" schoolhouse in Kentucky. In later years, she taught in Mad River and Dayton Public school districts. She was a loyal member of the First Dayton Freewill Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary.
