Mrs. M.H. Alberty Dead
Mrs. Margaretta L. Alberty passed away at the family home Tuesday, March 6th, 1923, of dropsy. She had been sick for several months and her death was not unexpected. In recent years she has lived alone a good part of the time. She was a great reader and many valuable items which she has clipped and carefully preserved were found. Among them are many poems of high spiritual and touching incidents. One of these treasures was a poem sung at a National State funeral years ago, the first verse reads:
"Not now, but in the coming years,
It may be in the better land
We'll read the meaning of our tears,
And there, sometime, we'll understand."
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church for a good many years, but in her failing health, she has not been able to take any great active part in Cherokee Church work.

Margaretta Jamison was the daughter of Jacob and Martha Ann Jamison and was born in Washington, Fayette County, Ohio, August 26th, 1850. They came to this community in 1869. On Sept. 24, 1874, she was married to Myron H. Alberty.
There are left of the immediate family to mourn her death, three sons, Dr. O.L. Alberty of Carl Junction, Mo., Alfred S. and Lloyd C. of Cherokee, ten grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Laura B. Hanly of Joplin, Mo.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at the home by Rev. E.L. Torrence and interment in the Cherokee cemetery.
