His father, Richard Griffith died 27 June 1788.


Richard was born in Dublin on 10 June 1852.
In 1780, aged 18, he joined the East India Company at Bengal, as a clerk, and was promoted a year later as an Assistant to the Secretary.
In 1872, he was appointed as Secretary to the Council of Revenue at Patna.
In 1776, he was appointed Accountant at Patna.
He returned to England in 1780, still with the company, but appears to have left the organisation in 1781-2.
Richard bought the Millicent estate, Clane, Co. Kildare, in 1782, and owned it until 1812.
He became a director of the Grand Canal Company.

Married 1, 1780.
Charity Yorke Bramston, of Oundle, Northampton.

He became a Member of the Irish Parliament for the borough of Askeaton in 1783, and remained until 1790.
Following the death of his wife Charity, he re-married.

In the United Irishmen rebellion years 1798-1803, Millicent House was burnt by the rebels, supposedly in revenge for the execution of Dr. John Esmonde, a leader of the United Irishmen in Co. Kildare.

Richard Griffith moved to Holyhead, North Wales in 1816, and died there in 1822. He was buried in St. Cybi's Churchyard, Holyhead.
