Philip died at Treasure Coast Hospices in Fort Pierce. He had been a resident of Florida for 40 years after having lived in Los Angeles, CA.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Phil was an actor known for movies "In Harm's Way" (1965) and "Stroker Ace" (1983), and was at one time a model portraying the well-known 'Marlboro Man'.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles G. and Dorothy (Koontz) Abrams. He was survived by his wife of 42 years, Elsa (Sorensen) Mattingly, and a sister, Rosemary Cummings of Bowie, Maryland.
