The Honourable Gerald Grenfell was the second son of the 1st(and last) Baron Desborough,(William H Grenfell) and Lady Desborough,( Ethel A P Grenfell )of Taplow Court, Bucks.Born in London,(St Georges Registration District)and educated at Oxford-his brother was there at the same time in 1901.He was 25 and one of the war poets. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the 8th Bn.The Rifle Brigade and
has no known grave.
His brother, The Honourable Julian Henry Francis also fell.He was the eldest son of Baron Desborough and served as Captain in the 1st (Royal) Dragoons.He was 27 and was awarded the DSO (Distinguished Service Order.He died May 26th 1915 and was interred at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery. He was also one of the war poets; author of "Into Battle".
