Washington, D.C. - Dr. Edmund Bradley McCue, 84, Professor Emeritus at the American University,Washington, D.C., and a resident of the Idaho Terrace Apts., #724, 3040 Idaho Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C., died Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at the Washington Home and Community Hospices, 3720 Upton Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., following a period of declining health.
He was born in Worcester, MA on March 8, 1929 to Felix F. and Francis (Bradley) McCue and was educated in Springfield and Montague Public Schools, graduate of Turners Falls High School in the Class of 1937. He furthered his education by attending Union College, where he received his BA in Mathematics. He then attended Michigan University in Ann Arbor, where he received his MA in Statistics. Lastly, he received his Doctorate in Statistics from Carnegie Mellon.
Dr. McCue was a member of the faculty at Iowa University, later joining the American University in Washington, D.C., as a member of the Mathematics and Statistics Department and retired from same in 1989. He was at one time, a member of the Organization of American States and taught in South America in Chile for a period of time. Later in his life, he embarked on a lengthy sabbatical teaching in Europe with destinations that included France, Denmark,Germany and Spain.
Dr. McCue was a Renaissance man, who enjoyed many interests including traveling, antiques, fine dining and the pursuit of intellectual conversation. He was a devoted peace activist.
As an only child and one who never married, Dr. McCue is remembered with great affection by his friends, former faculty members and students and neighbors. In a special way, he is lovingly remembered by his dear friends Miss Kathleen Breen of Montclair,NJ and Ms. Ingrid Fraley, of Germantown, M.D. and Dr. Mary Gray, Chair of the Mathematics and Statistics Department of the American University and former colleague.
A memorial gathering in remembrance of Dr. McCue will be observed at the American University, 4400 Massachusetts Avenue NW., Washington, D.C., on Saturday, December 6, 2013 from 11:00-2:00PM in the Bentley Lounge of Gray Hall, Room 130 with refreshments to be provided.
At the request of Dr. McCue, he will be laid to rest in the family plot in the Highland Cemetery, located in the Millers Falls section of the Town of Montague with private graveside services to be observed with Rev. David Neil, Pastor of the United Church of Bernardston, MA to officiate. Visiting hours have been omitted.
Legacy gifts in memory of the late Dr. McCue may be directed to the American University, 4400 Massachusetts Avenue NW, Washington, D.C., 20016 in c/o Dr. Mary Gray, Chair of the Mathematics & Statistics Department. The McCarthy Funeral Homes of Greenfield and Turners Falls, MA have been entrusted with the arrangements, assisted by the Joseph Gawler's Funeral Home, Inc., Washington, D.C. Guest book and condolence message available
