Douglas Arthur Wash­burn, 81, The Villages, Fla., died there Monday, Aug.28, 2006.
Doug was born Jan. 16,1925, in Sturgeon Bay, to Elton and Gwendolyn (Ha­gen) Washburn. He married Janice Elaine Graf Oct. 31,1985, at Row­leys Bay. He served 23 years in the U.S. Navy as an aviator, retiring as lieutenant commander. In the private sector, Doug was a safety engineer, manager and di­rector of engineering for various East Coast insur­ance companies, as well as Director of Marketing and Safety for a Midwest shipyard. He moved to The Villages in 1998.

Doug is survived by his wife, Janice, The Villages; daughters, Carol Wash­burn, Tampa, Fl., and Cee-Bee Todd, Ft. Lauderdale,Fla.; sons, Marc Washburn, Fort Mill, S.C., and Douglas(Anne) Washburn, Anchor­age, Alaska; stepson, Terry(Sara)Daubner, Burlington; brother, Paul (Helen) Washburn, Noank, Conn.; mother-in-law, Ruby Graf, Stur­geon Bay; sister-in-law,Yvonne (Louis Johnson)Hipskind, San Francisco, Calif.; four brothers-in-law, Dale (Wendy), Fish Creek, Don, Fairbanks, Alaska, Wesley, Fairbanks, and Randy (Katie), Sturgeon Bay; one nephew, one niece; two step-nieces; six grandchildren; two step- grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Jo Peterson.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Timothy Cath­olic Community Church, The Villages, Friday, Sept. 8, at 8:30 a.m. A memorial service interring cremated remains will be held at a later date at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Stur­geon Bay. In lieu of flowers, contri­butions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Attention: Thanks and Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Please write “Thanks and Giving” on your check.
