Husband of Harriet Newell Young; with whom he had the following known children:

* James Matthew Tate was still alive in 1880 U.S. Census with widowed mother.

** Harriet Newell Young Tate married Rev. James Guthrie Boydston, a widower on December 14th 1881 in Meridan, Mississippi. Harriet lived until she was in her 88th year of her age on June 24th 1922 in Citrus County, Florida.

Rev. Boydston was an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church and was also a school teacher.
