Matthew Henry Young, eldest child born to Francis and Nancy Little Young, was born in the bounds of Abbeville County, South Carolina. His parents were Associate Reformed Presbyterians; who were devote to church, education and community.
On December 13th 1825, Matthew married Miss Maria Remer Simpson, daughter of George William Simpson and the former Sarah Moffatt. Matthew and Mary had the following known children:

Harriet Newell (1833-1922)
Sarah Ellen (1839-1911)
By 1850, Matthew had moved his family to Mississippi. Mary died in May of 1859 and during the Civil War; their three sons died during the war: William & John at Vicksburg and James Henry died at Richmond.
William Henry Young departed this life on the 16th of September 1878 at the home of his daughter, Harriet; while being treated for Yellow fever. He was laid to rest with several grandchildren and son-in-law, Dr. James Tate; who also succumbed due to fever.
