Clinton Morris was an adventurer, an avid hunter and fisherman, well-traveled, and was involved with several businesses. He was an employee of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad company where he was the switch operator in Sanitaria Springs, NY. It was an important job since Sanitaria Springs lies on the outskirts of Binghamton, NY which had become a major rail hub in the northeast and train traffic was constant and heavy.

He also owned a sawmill and lumberyard in West Windsor, NY and built and owned several homes in the Binghamton area between Port Crane and Sanitaria Springs on a road that ran parallel to the Chenango Canal called "Towpath Road". He also owned a couple of duplex houses that he rented out for extra income.

Because of his position with the railroad, he and his family could travel via the railway for free. He liked to vacation with his wife in Florida and eventually decided to move there permanently around 1919. He brought with him his wife Minnie (Pomeroy) Morris, his widowed mother Emeline (Mallery) Morris, his recently married daughter Wanda and her husband Harry Albert, as well as Harry Albert's parents, Bernside and Nancy Albert. Clinton purchased all the homes on an entire block in St. Petersburg where everyone in the family took up residence. He used the others for rental income. He also purchased a newly built gas station in St. Petersburg as cars were becoming the main source of transportation and gas stations were few and far between.

Clinton was the son of Ralph Hankins Morris and Emeline Ophelia Mallery. Clinton's father Ralph was a Civil War veteran who fought in the Calvary out of New York State as a Union soldier (Co.B, 2nd Prov. Rgmt). Ralph came from a long line of loggers who worked at floating logs down the Delaware River between Hancock, NY and Port Jervis, NY and sometimes all the way to Philadelphia. It was a dangerous job that took the life of Ralph's father William Morris when Ralph was only 2 years old. Clinton's father Ralph Morris also built and ran a hunting lodge in the Adirondack Mountains and was a professional hunting guide. Ralph's love of hunting carried over to his son, Clinton Morris.
