Phyllis M. Setchel, 89, of Streator, passed away at 10 a.m. Friday November 8, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Streator.
Funeral services for Phyllis Setchel will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday November 13, 2013 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Pastor Roger Hurlbut will officiate and also conduct graveside services in Riverview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be James Hawkins, Scott Ruckoldt, Adam Linkimer, George Ginder, Ed Davis and Steward Lyman. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Lorey, Ron Lorey, Carolyn Erler, Karen Davis, Barbara Lorey and Susan Hansen. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Elias Funeral Home in Streator is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Phyllis was born October 29, 1924 in Streator, she was the daughter of Arthur and Bertha (Lorey) Hill, she married Hayden Merritt Setchel on August 2, 1945 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Streator, he passed away on November 5, 2008.
She is survived by her daughter Lori (Michael) Linkimer of St. Charles, IL, grandchildren Lindsey (James) Hawkins, Kirstie (Scott) Ruckoldt, Adam Linkimer and great grandchildren Jaelynn and Jamian Hawkins and Silas and Keilah Ruckoldt.
Educated in Streator Elementary Schools and a 1942 graduate of Streator Township High School where she was active in the music and drama departments, she then graduated from Capital University in Columbus, OH in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public School Music.
After graduating from college, Phyllis taught elementary school music in Alfred, New York, Streator District 45, Eagle School and Otter-Creek Hyatt Schools.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Streator where she was choir director for 33 years, she was a soprano soloist.
She was a member of St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, the Choralaires, Phi Beta National Music Fraternity, LaSalle County Retired Teachers and Illinois Life Member of Retired Teachers, Engle Lane Theater, served on the Streator High School Class of 1942 reunion committee and the Streator Country Club.
