It was Mother's Day, May 10, 1931, and Hulda Wetzel was en route from Pittsburgh to visit her mother near Hillside, south of Blairsville in Westmoreland County.

She was gravely injured when the automobile in which she was riding was side-swiped and pushed into a telegraph pole. She died later that day in the Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg. She was 26 years old.

Miss Wetzel was born November 8, 1905, a daughter of Mrs. Lona (Trimble) Hamilton and the late Ernest Wetzel. She was employed by the Liberty Grocery Company of Wilkinsburg, and resided with her sister, Mrs. John Brickle, in Pittsburgh.

Funeral services were handled by the Rairigh Funeral Home and interment took place at Burnside Cemetery.
