Gesina was the daughter of Henry and Mary Alyda (Fleers) Busch. Her parents moved from Iowa to Saline County, Nebraska when she was a small girl.
She married William Bartels on Feb. 9, 1905 at Plymouth, Nebraska. They had three children who grew to adulthood (Walter, Roy and Gloria) and baby Anna Gesina who was born and died on July 3, 1913.
At her death she was survived by her husband and her children.
