1932 - 2013 NORTH ADAMS June L. Gaffey, 81, of North Adams, MA., passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on October 31, 2013, at the North Adams Commons Nursing home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Williamstown, MA. on March. 20, 1932, the daughter of late Theodore and Mabel (Blake) Garrison. She was educated in the local Williamstown Public Schools. She was employed for over 20 years with General Photo in Williamstown. For several years she proudly served as the local union's Treasurer. She retired in 1987. Restless in retirement and as an empty nester, she later worked part time at the Sweetbrook Nursing Home in Williamstown. How fortuitous for her, because several friends made there, have recently been her excellent caregivers at the NA Commons. June was proud to have been born on a Williamstown farm, the eldest of six children. As a Great Depression era child, she learned wisdom before her time, that she passed along to anyone with some patience and a good sense of humor. A widow at age 31 with two young sons, she learned much from those early challenges. Only later did she meet the love of her life, a widowed man with two young children. She and Donald were married in 1972 and they blended their families together. Family was always the most important part of her life. Their home was always the focal point for generations to gather and celebrations to be enjoyed. She also loved to travel. Her favorite places were in the Hawaiian Islands and any ocean beach. Survivors include her husband, Donald F. Gaffey: four children, Donna J. Poulton of Adams, Jeffrey F. Gaffey of North Adams, John R. Walden (Pamela) of Plattsmouth NE, and Randy J. Walden (LuAnn) of Los Gatos, CA; three grandchildren, Jamie (Sarah), Marlyn Gaffey, and Rebecca Poulton; five great-grandchildren: two sisters, Beverly Walsh (Brian) and Virginia Darling (Stanley), and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother and two sisters, Theodore Garrison Jr., Barbara Sylvester and Patricia Chilson. FUNERAL NOTICE: Private funeral services will take place at the Flynn & Dagnoli Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will follow immediately in Southview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated through the funeral home.
