Son of Michael and Margaret Doyle, of Golden Ball, Kilternan, Co. Dublin.

He and his neighbour
Private Edward Farrell
enlisted in the British Army on 5 January 1912, and were amongst the first group of the British Expeditionary Force that was sent to France in August 1914.

He was killed in action at Zillebeke Wood, near Ypres.

His neighbour in Golden Ball,
Private Edward Byrne
died the following day in the same action
