Esther J. Himes, 89, 54 S. White St., Brookville, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Born April 9, 1924, in Reynoldsville, she was a daughter of the late Garfield Sprankle and Elsie Hawk. She was married to Stewart V. Himes on Jan. 21, 1943, in Knoxdale. He preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1996 [sic--1995].
She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, watching television, reading and spending time with her family.
Survivors include three sons: Donald, William V. and Robert E. Himes, all of Brookville; a daughter, Nancy J. Ohls of Falls Creek; three sisters: Marie Grape of Stump Creek, Emma Jean Knapp of Corsica, Hazel Conners of Mayport; two granddaughters and one grandson and several great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers: George, Earl, Leonard and Elmer Sprankle and four sisters: Martha Benninger, Ruth Porin, Betty Breese and Margaret Kellichner.
Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the McKinney Funeral Home, Brookville. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Glenn McQuown officiating.
