Earl H Sholes, last surviving grandson of Christopher Latham Sholes, inventor of the first commercially successful typewriter, died Thursday at a nursing home in Parsippany, N.J. His age was 77. He was a former resident of Morristown, N.J. and Pelham Manor, N.Y.
Mr. Sholes was a son of the late Zalmon Gilbert Sholes and Mary Frances Hutchinson, and was associated with the Remington Typewriter interests until he retired at the age of 42.
He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Frances Mullen of the Bronx and Mrs. Kathleen Jenkins of Yonkers, and five grandchildren.
Reposing at Fox Funeral Home 201st Street and Grand Concourse. Mass at St Phillip Nerl R.C. Church, Saturday at 10:00 A.M. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
