John J. was the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth "Lowdermilk" Brown.
He was married to Serena McDonald and to that union were born: J. B., L. W., Alice, Lizzie, Annie, and a step-daughter Isabella Morgan and step-son Willam E. Morgan.

Mr. Brown enlisted into the Confederacy (I have 2 different dates give as muster in dates) April 27 1861 and May 1st, 1861 at Tippah County, Mississippi. With Co F. 2nd Infantry. He mustered out on April 9, 1865 at Appomattox courthouse, Virginia, surrendered, confederacy, survived war? Yes.
