Col. T.J. Moynahan Dies, 64; War Hero, Old 69th Officer
Leader in Irish-American life Pneumonia Victim in Kin's Home

Col Timothy J. Moynahan, 64 World War hero and prominent figure in Irish-American affairs for many years, died of pneumonia last nightafter an illness of 10 days in the home of his brohter, 251 Washington Ave. He was formerly Lieutenant Colonel of the old 69th and at his death was commander of he 69th Veterans Associaton.
Won War Honors
During the World War Colonel Moynahan went overseas with the old 69th as a major and later became lieutenant colonel of the 165th. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre for extraordianry heroism in action near Clerges, France September 28m 1918 when he led his battalion through artillery and machine gun fire and without any support captured the objective and repelled four counter attacks.
Colonel Moynahan was born in County Kerry and had lived in Brooklyn, many years. He was fromerly associated with his brother in the real estate business in Manhattan and had charge of several large estates.
AFter his discharge from the army in 1919 he was for a time in City Collector's office. In recent years he was a real estate appraiser in the Department of Finance.
He had served as grand marshal of several St. Patrick's Day parades He was a memeber of the Friendly Sons of St. Patric, the American Irish Historical Society, Catholic Writers' Guild, Ancient Order of Hibernians, United Irish Socities and the Kerrymen's Association. He also was in the Army Reserve and was formerly drillmaster of the old Clason Point Military Academy, now the LaSalle Military Academy at Sayville.
Spanish War Veteran
He served in the Spanish Maerican War and the Mexican border campaign and was a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor.
He is survived by three brothers Patrick A, Cornelius J. and Michael A. Moynahan and two sisters, sister Marie Dominica of the Sacred Heart of the Dominican Order and Mrs. Mary C. Frost of 611 E 7th St.
The funeral will be held Monday with a solemn high requiem mass at Queen of all Saints R. C. Church Lafayett and Vanderbilt Aves. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery
