Title: Death of William W. Wilson
Published by the Lisbon Sun, April 12, 1889
The death of Wm. W. Wilson, late publisher and editor, until recently, of the Newark, Dakota, Times, came like a shock to this community. On Wednesday of last week a telegram was received by his brother that he was alarmingly ill, at his home in Dakota and a few hours later came another dispatch that he was dead. Arrangements were at once made to have the remains brought here for interment, and arrived on Sunday morning accompanied by the bereaved wife and a little son, the only child. The funeral services were held in the U. B. Church, Rev. Westfall, officiating, assisted by Revs. Mullen and Evans, and the remains interred in the Lisbon cemetery, the same day, attended by a large concourse of relatives, and old friends of the deceased.
Mr. Wilson was born in Lisbon, Dec. 13, 1856, and here grew up to manhood. He learned the printing trade in the Sun office and about nine years ago left here and for three years was variously employed. Then he became editor and publisher of the Free Press, Detroit, Dakota. Three years ago he became editor and publisher of the Newark (Dakota), Times, which paper he conducted until within a week or two of his death, which occurred April 5th, 1886, when he disposed of the establishment.
The first year of his residence at Newark he lost his entire outfit—Presses and all—by a tornado. He struggled out of the wreck and has since been running the Times successfully.
The deceased leaves a wife and one little son, his mother, (now married to John W. Morrison, Esq.). and a brother, to mourn his death. Although an invalid for several years, with consumption, his death was sudden and unexpected at the time of its occurrence. The SUN tenders the widow and the orphan and the bereaved relatives its sincerest condolence.
