ELYRIA - Ronald A. Roberts, 66 years old, of Elyria, died on Saturday, October 26, 2013, following a three-year battle with cancer.

Ron was born on May 31, 1947, in Elyria, and made his home there all of his life. He was a graduate of Elyria High School's Class of 1966 where he excelled in sports, winning the Buckeye Conference Championship in tennis doubles his senior year. He served his country for 4 years in the United States Air Force in Korea and Washington D.C., returning home to attend LCCC, the University of Maryland, and graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. In 1971, he became a co-owner of Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home and served many local families with caring compassion.

A member of St. Mary Church, he was a Eucharistic Minister, usher, a CYO basketball coach, and an officer in the church's 200 Club. An honorary member of St. Jude Church, he organized and participated in the church's bowling league.

He was a member of the American Legion, Post 12, The VFW, Post 1079, the United Polish Club, National and Ohio Funeral Directors Associations, and served for many years as treasurer of Lorain County Funeral Directors.

He enjoyed golf, bowling, watching his beloved Buckeyes, Indians, Browns and Cavs, relaxing in Fort Myers Beach and entertaining his four grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bonnie (nee Reichlin); was the proud father of two daughters, Melissa (Jon M.D.) Parsons M.D. of Westerville and Megan (Markell) Young of Lorain; and the grandfather of Jack and Owen Parsons, and Myla and K.J. Young. He is also survived by his mother, Ruth (Clyde) Thurman of Spring City, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Peg Reichlin of Elyria; brother, Clyde (Wendy) Thurman of Spring City, Tenn.; three sisters, Sue (Bill) Carter of Sheffield Lake, Linda Brown and Cathy (Ken) Lauer, both of Spring City, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Austin Roberts; and his father-in-law, Leonard Reichlin.

Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, on Monday, October 28, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, October 29, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church (Please meet at the church), 320 Middle Avenue, Elyria, with the Reverend Father Charles Diedrick, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, with full military honors provided by the Elyria VFW, Post #1079.
