Orlin John Tirrell passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016, in Rigby, Idaho.

He was born Sept. 26, 1921, in Ririe, Idaho, the second youngest of 10 children born to Albert Tobias Tirrell and Elizabeth Jane Lovell.

He grew up working with his family on a dry farm near Ririe. He enjoyed working for his older brother, Eldon, hauling coal from the Blind Bull Coal Mine to Rigby.

He married Vada May Coles on April 24, 1942. They made the perfect couple then and always have been since that wonderful day.

During World War II, he served in the Army in Alaska. He spent many hours driving and helping build up the Alaskan highway and also served as a fireman. Vada was also able to be in Alaska for some of the time he spent there.

After the war, he drew a homestead on the Heart Mountain Bench near Powell, Wyo. During this time, they were blessed to have five sons, Brent Jay Tirrell (Carolyn) of Lovell, Wyo., Curtis Alvin Tirrell, Rick Tirrell, Bart Coles Tirrell (Lori) of Olympia Wash., and Douglas Orlin Tirrell (Julie) of Rigby.

Orlin was preceded in death by sons, Curtis and Rick and great-grandson, Joseph Strom. He had 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was the ideal role model for his children, all of which are active and following in his footsteps today.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, in Rigby 12th Ward Chapel, 602 Sundance St., in Rigby. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Flamm Funeral Home, 61 N. First E., in Rexburg, and from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
