Edward Macke
Edward Henry Macke, 81, Yakima, Wash., died Tuesday, November 21, 1989, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born February 9, 1908, in Baileyville, to Henry and Elizabeth Runnebaum Macke. As a young man, he worked on the farm.
He married Veronica Haug on June 8, 1932, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Baileyville. They farmed in Kansas until 1945, when the family moved to Yakima. Working as a master mechanic for Del Monte Corporation, he retired in 1968. Ed was a successful businessman. Being an original member of the Catholic Credit Union, he served on the board of directors for 30 years and three as president. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. From 1959 until 1971, he successfully operated a small orchard in Terrace Heights.
Survivors include his wife, Veronica Macke, of the home; four sons, LeRoy Macke of Seattle, Delbert Macke of Vancouver, Wash., Dr. Edward R. Macke of Olympia, and Darrell Macke of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Arnold (Karren) Ford of Warrington, Ore.; four brothers, F.B. Macke of Seneca, Ray Macke of Tacoma, Wash., Henry Macke of Baileyville, and L.V. Macke of Eugene, Ore.; a sister, Mrs. E.F. (Aurelia) Heiman of Baileyville; 26 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Frashure; a granddaughter, Nancy Macke; and by two brothers, Albert and Bernard Macke.
