Stricken with paralysis last week Monday night, George W,. Gard, 78 who had been in the employ of the street commission for about twelve years here, never recovered and passed away Friday morning at 10 o'clock.
The funeral was held at 1:30 from the home and at 2 o'clock from the Moravian church Sunday with the Rev. E. F. Heimich officiating. Interment was at Bayside. Pallbearers were City Clerk E. S. Ackerman, John Volletz, Supt. James Johnson, City Treasurer W. R. Stephan, City Engineer E. W. Odbert, and George Maples.
Mr. Gard was born in Tippecanoe county, Indiana, February 4, 1849. He was married 48 years ago to Miss Ida Jane Cripe and in 1895 came to this county with his family, settling in Egg Harbor. Eighteen years ago the Gards moved to Sturgeon Bay. Surviving are Mrs. Gard and two sons, Luther and Claude, of Marinette. One daughter, Addie, Mrs, I. N. Ferguson, died ten years ago.
Those who were here from outside to attend the funeral were; Mr. and Mrs. John Cripe and Mr. and Mrs. David Cripe, of Mondova; Mrs. Maude Robertson and husband, Mrs. John Calfbeck, and Miss Grace Cripe, of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Luther Gard and son Lewin, of Marinette; Mr. and Mrs, Claude Gard, Marinette; and Miss Verna Gard, of Green Bay.
