Margaret was the daughter of John G. and Caroline Breckinridge Wolf. Her father emigrated from Wuttemberg, Germany. Margaret was born in 1823, and possibly had a sister Sarah Wolf who lived with Margaret and Edward (her husband), at least during the 1860's (per census). Margaret married Edward Livingston Spain in about 1846; they raised a family, including: Frances C. ("Fannie", died at age 3 in 1852); Charles Barwick Spain; Frances; Mary; and Richard Reynolds Spain. They lived in the Bridesburg area of Philadelphia. Margaret and Edward moved to a farm in West Dover, Delaware sometime in the 1870's, perhaps for retirement or just to get away from the big, highly industrialized city of Philadelphia. They lived there many years; Edward died in 1903, and Margaret died in 1919.
