MARTHA "MATTIE" JANE WAGES, daughter of JAMES JACKSON WAGES and MATILDA WELSCH DRAKE was born August 01, 1853 in Fredericktown, Knox County, Ohio, and died December 13, 1919 in Ashland, Ashland County, Ohio. She married FERDINAND EMERY MARBLE February 29, 1876 in Hastings, Barry County, Michigan, son of JEHIEL BUTLER MARBLE and ANNA LOVERIDGE DRAKE. He was born June 27, 1855 in Mount Vernon, Knox County, Ohio, and died April 11, 1927 in Ashland, Ashland County, Ohio. .

Following is an excerpt from Ruth Janice Marble Stahl's Memoirs:.

After my grandmother and grandfather moved from West Main Street to a house (Goodman Home) on the corner of West Fourth and Caroll Street, one Christmas season Grandpa told Grandma he was going downtown to get groceries and when he came back they'd go down Christmas shopping. When he came back she was still sitting in her rocking chair and he said "Are you ready to go?" She said "Yes" out of the side of her mouth and died, Dec. 13, 1919. .

OBITUARY

Sudden Death of Mrs. F. E. Marble Saturday Night in 67th Year – Funeral Tuesday

Mrs. Martha Wages Marble, wife of F. E. Marble, passed away very suddenly Saturday evening at nine o’clock at her home corner of West Fourth and Carroll streets. Mr. Marble returned home about five o’clock and found his wife sitting in a chair. He asked her a question to which she answered “Yes”. This was the last word she spoke. She became unconscious and Dr. Kinnaman was called but medical skill proved unvailing. She passed away about four hours later. Mrs. Marble was quite sick a year ago and had never regained her former health, being under the doctor’s care ever since.

Mrs. Marble was born August 1, 1853 in Frederickstown, Knox County, where she lived for 36 years, except for two or three years while in Michigan. In 1876 in Michigan she was united in marriage to Mr. Marble and in 1889 they moved to Ashland where they made their home ever since except for five years in Florida. She was aged 66 years, 4 months and 13 days. She had been a member of the Methodist church in this city for about thirty years.

Mrs. Marble leaves her husband, one son Duane, of this city one brother C. V. Wages, who resides in New Carlisle; one sister, Mr. Kate M. Crall of this city, who is now in Florida; one niece, one nephew and six grandchildren.

Funeral services Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the home on West Fourth street conducted by the Rev. A. B. Robertson. Interment in the Ashland cemetery.
