Melinda Wear is the daughter of Col. Samuel Wear and Mary "Polly" Gilliland and grew up in Sevierville, Sevier Co., TN.
Melinda Married William Bradshaw on 09 Aug 1818 in Sevier Co., TN.
For more information on Martha (Wear) Bradshaw see husband's record.
"Descendants of East Tennessee Pioneers", written by Olga Jones (Wear) Edwards and Ina Wear Roberts. (2nd edition) page 20
On the day of Col. Samuel WEAR's Estate Sale (1 Aug 1834) eight of the heirs of Col. WEAR (there were 11 in all) agreed to buy the plantation and if they sold it divide any profit they might make with the absent heirs. The absent heirs were Rebecca WITT and her husband John WITT of AR, Melinda BRADSHAW and her husband William BRADSHAW, and the minor heirs of Mary and Simeon PERRY.
Sometime between 1856 and 1858, John WEAR in order to clear title to land left by his stepmother published the following legal notice in the Knoxville Register: "John WEAR vs. P. M. WEAR, William BRADSHAW, heirs of John Guthrie, David Johnson and David Cumming, non-residents of TN a petition to sell land for the sum of $100 or more."
In the Col. Samuel WEAR section of "Notable Southern Families, Vol. II" by Zella Armstrong, Melinda WEAR is not mentioned. This was due to the fact that the WEAR bible was not available to Richard Lee Kelton, who wrote that section. Melinda WEAR and her birth date is listed with Col. Wear's other children in his handwriting and was made at the same time as he listed the other children in his Bible Her marriage date is also given in another part of the record in another handwriting, but the name of her spouse is not given. There can be no doubt that Melinda WEAR married a William BRADSHAW.
